Embark on a unique 4-day voyage aboard the Santa Maria Manuela, from Tenerife to Funchal, passing alongside the Selvagem Islands

Before setting sail, immerse yourself in the beauty of Tenerife by exploring the historic streets of Santa Cruz or hiking the volcanic landscapes of Teide National Park.

This journey heads upwind, meaning we’ll encounter some added resistance from prevailing winds and waves, making for a slightly more challenging experience. Engage in deck activities like knot-tying classes, perfect for learning new skills while sharing stories with fellow sailors. When weather permits, you’ll have the chance to climb the mast or relax on the bowsprit. A sunset drink on deck is a great way to end each day.

We will head our journey towards Madeira. As we approach Funchal, celebrate and take in the magnificent views, sharing stories and laughter with fellow travelers. The journey ends in Funchal, where you can explore the vibrant local culture, savor the island’s famous wines, or simply enjoy the beauty of Madeira’s natural landscapes.

Weather:

You can expect mild temperatures ranging from 18–24°C during the day and 15–19°C at night. While mostly dry weather is expected, brief showers are possible, especially near Madeira. Skies will be partly cloudy to clear, with good visibility throughout the journey.

When preparing for your voyage please bear in mind:

Your passport must have at least 6 months validity at the time of travel
The SMM is granted no flexibility for the embarkation and disembarkation times from the customs authorities

All guests must be between the ages of 14 and 80 years old at the time of travel

Santa María Manuela

The Santa Maria Manuela was launched on 10 May 1937 in Lisbon. It is a 67-metre sailing ship. The ship was named after the owner’s wife, Maria Manuela, mother of 16 children. The main function of the Santa Maria Manuela was cod fishing. The Santa Maria Manuela underwent a number of structural changes over the years, from the removal of the masts to the installation of a navigation bridge. In 1993 the ship was considered obsolete, was dismantled and only the steel hull remained. The following year the Santa María Manuela Foundation was created, a project that united 17 institutions under the same purpose: to recover the ship. The SMM now has unique conditions for sea voyages, events, parties and training at sea. Predominant colour WHITE.

Sailing on the sailing boats of the Nao Victoria Foundation is a magnificent human, technical and natural experience. You will take part in the sailing watches and experience the camaraderie of people of different ages, cultures and backgrounds, all as fond of the sea and boats as you are. You will learn navigation techniques, manoeuvring, knots and rigging, as well as getting to recognise the main stars and constellations. And all this in a natural environment as different, indomitable and incredibly beautiful as the sea.

A mini adventure full of humanity. My dream since I was a child, to see the sails swell in the wind, with the bow cutting waves up and down. Swallowing the sky, swallowing the sea. I am one of those who never stop, I do not miss even the smallest detail and Nao Victoria and you have filled me. All my nights different, always ecstatic. Captain, crew a 10, volunteers, I have no scale to name your dedication, your courtesy, your bizarreness. Historically well prepared, I now admire even more those heroes who preceded us.
