Sailing trip with multiple landings ashore a day and two nature tour guides.

The Arctic sailing expedition begins on 30 August 2024 in Longyearbyen, the gateway to the fascinating world of Svalbard. Over the next few days, you will be taken on an unforgettable journey through the icy waters and breathtaking landscapes of the Arctic. The expedition ends on 9 September 2024, back in Longyearbyen. During this time, you will have the opportunity to experience the beauty and wonder of the Arctic in all its splendour.

The majestic landscape of Spitsbergen, characterised by mighty glaciers, deep fjords and imposing mountains, opens up before you. The unspoilt nature of this region will captivate your senses.

Spitsbergen also offers a remarkable animal world. You could come across majestic polar bears living here in their natural environment. Walruses and reindeer are also at home here and often visible along the coast. The birdlife is diverse and fascinating.

The Arctic nights turn into a unique experience as the midnight sun bathes the horizon in magical light. You have the opportunity to visit abandoned mines and settlements that bear witness to the rich history of this region. This transitional period, with long twilights, is very attractive for photographers. The lighting conditions during this phase offer a unique opportunity to capture the beauty and magic of the Arctic in pictures. The warm, soft light in the late evening and early morning hours create a very special atmosphere and are perfect for landscape and wildlife photography.
The expedition is accompanied by experienced guides who will impart valuable knowledge about the Arctic and its ecosystems. During the trip, you can take part in exciting activities such as hiking and even polar swimming.
Experience the Arctic in its full splendour by joining this unforgettable expedition with the Tallship Company. Be mesmerised by the magic of the polar region and return with memories of an adventure that will last a lifetime.

Packing List:

  • Do not travel with a hard suitcase; it’s better to use a good travel bag.
  • A passport if required for the planned trip; otherwise, an identity card is sufficient (inform yourself in advance).
  • A coffee-to-go mug (not mandatory) or a water bottle for refilling.
  • While oilskins are not necessary, a good rainproof jacket, rain trousers, and sturdy shoes are always recommended, be it for hiking, cycling, or helping on deck.
  • Don’t forget sunglasses, a sun hat or cap, and sun cream; even when the sun is not visible, you can get quite burnt.
  • A good book for some solitude or a good parlour game to play with your fellow sailors.
  • A camera to capture your memories and share them with those at home.
  • Cash because you can only pay your drinks bill in cash here. Also, consider the currency of the country you are traveling to so you can buy a souvenir.
  • A board game to play with fellow travelers.
  • A good mood! You certainly shouldn’t forget it!

Tips: Good to know: Would you like to travel alone and not share a cabin? Then you can book a single traveler supplement, which corresponds to the normal travel price + 50%.

TIP: This is a crossing, which means that we have to bring the boat back to another starting point. If the wind is not in our favor, we will use the engine. If you prefer a sailing trip where you are guided more by the wind, you can find a more suitable trip in our travel program.

Vessel

Antigua

On board the Antigua you are on a very special expedition ship. The three master has a specious center deck which enables you as guest to view the vast wilderness and animals of northernmost regions of Europe. The characteristic sailing ship counts three zodiacs used for excursions.

You’re immediately at home in the comfortable and cosy salon of the ship, a perfect spot to wind down from a day at sea. As in the salon, the standard cabins are mahogany finished. For those who prefer slightly more comfort there are a few larger cabins with loose beds. All cabins have en-suite bathrooms with showers and toilets.

With the Barkentine Antigua you will reach regions where other ships won’t be able to sail. It’s for that reason that guests prefer to embark on our unique expeditions in arctic waters.
