Destination Barcelona – Toulon
Dates 30 April (Embark 16h00) – 5 May (Disembark 10h00)
Embark on this unforgettable 5-day voyage aboard the Santa Maria Manuela, from Barcelona, Spain’s dynamic capital of Catalonia, and sail along the Cote D’Azur to the historic French naval city of Toulon.
Begin your journey at Barcelona’s awe-inspiring Gothic Quarter to uncover hidden squares, centuries-old buildings, and the grand Barcelona Cathedral. Nearby is Sagrada Família, Antoni Gaudí’s iconic basilica, and the bustling La Boqueria Market, where vibrant stalls overflow with fresh seafood, jamón, and artisanal treats.
Inspired by Barcelona’s vibrance, as we head east volunteer to help the crew hoist and set the sails. The feeling of helming a 68m sailing ship with the sensation as she responds to the command of the wheel is something to savor forever. There´s nothing our crew like more than to share their knowledge of sailing with our guests, and they will encourage you to get actively involved in sailing the ship.
Knot classes are a great way to learn a new skill whilst sharing sailing stories with shipmates, and if the weather allows there’s the opportunity to go up the mast or relax on the bowsprit. A drink at sunset on the deck is the perfect way to round off each day.
Finally we arrive in Toulon’s natural harbor crowned with ancient fortifications and home to the French naval fleet.
WEATHER
At the end of April and the beginning of May, the Côte d’Azur typically enjoys mild and pleasant weather, making it an ideal time for sailing. ABOUT BARCELONA
Barcelona, Spain’s dynamic capital of Catalonia, is a city where Gothic history meets modernist flair. Begin your journey at the awe-inspiring Sagrada Família, Antoni Gaudí’s iconic basilica that captivates with its intricate spires and ethereal light. Wander through the narrow streets of the Gothic Quarter to uncover hidden squares, centuries-old buildings, and the grand Barcelona Cathedral.
For a taste of the city’s creative energy, visit the bustling La Boqueria Market, where vibrant stalls overflow with fresh seafood, jamón, and artisanal treats. Escape the city buzz in Park Güell, another of Gaudí’s masterpieces, where whimsical mosaics and lush gardens offer panoramic views of Barcelona’s skyline. And, of course, no trip is complete without a relaxing afternoon at Barceloneta Beach, savoring seafood paella with the Mediterranean breeze in the air.
ABOUT TOULON
Toulon is situated around a rocky bay, sheltered by the limestone rocks of the ‘Faron’, crowned with ancient fortifications. This sheltered position is a natural harbor, and home to the French naval fleet.
The old town of Toulon is worth exploring, with its typically Mediterranean narrow streets and attractive squares and fountains. The best time to visit is in the morning when the daily market on Cours Lafayette adds some colour to the town.
Fountaine des Trois Douphins (1780) in Puget Place are the most remarkable of all the fountains in Toulon for its grandeur and the National Museum of the Navy tells the story of the Arsenal of Toulon, and houses an outstanding series of ship models from the seventeenth century.

Santa María Manuela
The Santa Maria Manuela was launched on 10 May 1937 in Lisbon. It is a 67-metre sailing ship. The ship was named after the owner’s wife, Maria Manuela, mother of 16 children. The main function of the Santa Maria Manuela was cod fishing. The Santa Maria Manuela underwent a number of structural changes over the years, from the removal of the masts to the installation of a navigation bridge. In 1993 the ship was considered obsolete, was dismantled and only the steel hull remained. The following year the Santa María Manuela Foundation was created, a project that united 17 institutions under the same purpose: to recover the ship. The SMM now has unique conditions for sea voyages, events, parties and training at sea. Predominant colour WHITE.
