About the Voyage
On this 5-day motor-sailing voyage aboard the Santa Maria Manuela we start from the vibrant city of Malaga, through the Gibraltar Straight, make a stop in the charming Portimão, and conclude in Portugal’s historic capital of Lisbon.
Malaga has a rich history, serving as the birthplace of Pablo Picasso and boasting a vibrant seafaring tradition. Before you embark consider exploring the Alcazaba, a stunning Moorish fortress with panoramic views of the Mediterranean, or visit the Picasso Museum, home to an extensive collection of the legendary artist’s works. Delight in the local seafood cuisine and soak up the sun on Malaga’s city beaches.
We head west through the Gibraltar Straight and north against the prevailing wind towards Portimão’s golden sandy beaches and quaint old town’s cobbled streets and historic architecture. After a brief stop its west again to the Cape of Sao Vincente and north again to Lisbon.
If we get lucky with the wind direction, volunteer to help the crew hoist and set the sails.
The feeling of helming a 68m sailing ship with the sensation as she responds to the command of the wheel is something to savor forever. There´s nothing our crew like more then to share their knowledge of sailing with our guests, and they will encourage you to get actively involved in sailing the ship.
Knot classes are a great way to learn a new skill whilst sharing sailing stories with shipmates, and if the weather allows there’s the opportunity to go up the mast or relax on the bowsprit. A drink at sunset on the deck is the perfect way to round off each day.
Lisbon beckons, as we sail up the Rio Tejo beneath the city’s famous suspension bridge, Ponte 25 de Abril. After you disembark consider immersing yourself in the vibrant culture of Lisbon, with its Fado music, historic neighborhoods like Alfama, and stunning viewpoints. Visit the Belem Tower and Jerónimos Monastery, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Santa María Manuela
The Santa Maria Manuela was launched on 10 May 1937 in Lisbon. It is a 67-metre sailing ship. The ship was named after the owner’s wife, Maria Manuela, mother of 16 children. The main function of the Santa Maria Manuela was cod fishing. The Santa Maria Manuela underwent a number of structural changes over the years, from the removal of the masts to the installation of a navigation bridge. In 1993 the ship was considered obsolete, was dismantled and only the steel hull remained. The following year the Santa María Manuela Foundation was created, a project that united 17 institutions under the same purpose: to recover the ship. The SMM now has unique conditions for sea voyages, events, parties and training at sea. Predominant colour WHITE.
