The majestic and iconic Nao Victoria is about to embark on an exciting voyage that will take her from the shores of Vigo to the charming port of Sotogrande. This voyage represents the longest voyage the Nao Victoria has undertaken in 2023, promising to be an unforgettable experience for crew and historic sailing enthusiasts alike.

Departing from Vigo in northern Spain, the Nao Victoria will venture into uncharted waters, skirting the picturesque coastline of Portugal. As she makes her way across the Atlantic Ocean, the crew will face the cool breezes and warm waters of this vast ocean, creating an environment full of challenges and excitement.

Along the way, sailors will enjoy the natural beauty of the Atlantic coastline and possibly catch a glimpse of the majestic marine wildlife that inhabits these waters. The route will take the Nao Victoria southwards, following a course towards the Mediterranean Sea, to its final destination in Sotogrande.

Sotogrande and its surroundings offer a number of places of interest that visitors will not want to miss. These include: the port of Sotogrande (where the Nao Victoria will dock), its impressive golf club and for nature lovers the natural park of Los Alcornocales.

Nao Victoria

The Nao Victoria is the replica of the first ship that sailed around the world with Magellan and Elcano, achieving the greatest naval feat of all time. It was built in 1991 and in 2004 it sailed around the world again to commemorate that trip. It has 3 masts and bowsprit, 6 sails with 290m2 of sail area. With capacity for 22 people, it usually has 12 people on board with bunk beds. Wooden boat more familiar and spartan, with the smallest spaces, with incredible stories and adventures.

Sailing on the sailing boats of the Nao Victoria Foundation is a magnificent human, technical and natural experience. You will take part in the sailing watches and experience the camaraderie of people of different ages, cultures and backgrounds, all as fond of the sea and boats as you are. You will learn navigation techniques, manoeuvring, knots and rigging, as well as getting to recognise the main stars and constellations. And all this in a natural environment as different, indomitable and incredibly beautiful as the sea.

A mini adventure full of humanity. My dream since I was a child, to see the sails swell in the wind, with the bow cutting waves up and down. Swallowing the sky, swallowing the sea. I am one of those who never stop, I do not miss even the smallest detail and Nao Victoria and you have filled me. All my nights different, always ecstatic. Captain, crew a 10, volunteers, I have no scale to name your dedication, your courtesy, your bizarreness. Historically well prepared, I now admire even more those heroes who preceded us.
