A sailing trip to Spitsbergen in September is a unique adventure that differs in many ways from the typical summer expeditions. The month of September breathes a very special life into the Arctic landscape that captivates photographers and nature lovers alike. The characteristic feature of this time is undoubtedly the deep blue light that bathes the surroundings in an almost magical glow. The days become shorter, the nights longer and the sun paints soft, bluish shadows over the icy waters and snow-covered peaks. This special atmosphere lends the landscape a surreal quality that makes photography a real pleasure. The gentle reflection of the light on the icebergs and glaciers creates contrasts and colours that can only be found in this intensity in September.
The light is not the only reason to visit Spitsbergen in September. The wildlife is in full activity. Polar bears in search of food are spotted along the coasts. The opportunity to observe and photograph these majestic predators in their natural environment is a unique experience. Walruses, seals and numerous bird species are also active at this time of year and offer photographers a wealth of motifs.
The relative peace and quiet and fewer tourist crowds in September offer the opportunity to enjoy the unspoilt nature of Spitsbergen in its purest form. You can explore the breathtaking landscapes in peace and quiet, without being disturbed. This allows for a deeper connection with nature and a more intense experience of the Arctic wilderness. The explorations are led by our experienced guides. They know all about nature and life in the arctic.

Packing List:
- Do not travel with a hard suitcase; it’s better to use a good travel bag.
- A passport if required for the planned trip; otherwise, an identity card is sufficient (inform yourself in advance).
- A coffee-to-go mug (not mandatory) or a water bottle for refilling.
- While oilskins are not necessary, a good rainproof jacket, rain trousers, and sturdy shoes are always recommended, be it for hiking, cycling, or helping on deck.
- Don’t forget sunglasses, a sun hat or cap, and sun cream; even when the sun is not visible, you can get quite burnt.
- A good book for some solitude or a good parlour game to play with your fellow sailors.
- A camera to capture your memories and share them with those at home.
- Cash because you can only pay your drinks bill in cash here. Also, consider the currency of the country you are traveling to so you can buy a souvenir.
- A board game to play with fellow travelers.
- A good mood! You certainly shouldn’t forget it!
Tips: Good to know: Would you like to travel alone and not share a cabin? Then you can book a single traveler supplement, which corresponds to the normal travel price + 50%.
TIP: This is a crossing, which means that we have to bring the boat back to another starting point. If the wind is not in our favor, we will use the engine. If you prefer a sailing trip where you are guided more by the wind, you can find a more suitable trip in our travel program.

Antigua
On board the Antigua you are on a very special expedition ship. The three master has a specious center deck which enables you as guest to view the vast wilderness and animals of northernmost regions of Europe. The characteristic sailing ship counts three zodiacs used for excursions.
You’re immediately at home in the comfortable and cosy salon of the ship, a perfect spot to wind down from a day at sea. As in the salon, the standard cabins are mahogany finished. For those who prefer slightly more comfort there are a few larger cabins with loose beds. All cabins have en-suite bathrooms with showers and toilets.
With the Barkentine Antigua you will reach regions where other ships won’t be able to sail. It’s for that reason that guests prefer to embark on our unique expeditions in arctic waters.
